Get everyone involved in your roll handling decisions.

When deciding on a roll handling equipment, get everyone who will use the equipment involved in the decision making process. Oftentimes, when I am in the field, I see roll handling equipment laying in the corner of the plant somewhere, covered in dust. While machine operators pick up and manipulate rolls of material by hand. The question is - why don't they use the equipment, instead of risking injury by handling heavy rolls of material.

The answer is simple. The operators feel they can complete their task faster and more efficiently than when using the roll handling equipment. If roll handling equipment is not properly designed so that it makes a machine operators life easier, they simply won't use it.

By getting everyone involved in the buying decision, you will get buy-in to the idea of roll handling equipment by the people who will be using it.
