Instead of using crowned rolls to help with web wrinkles, try a reverse crown roll

Often times, crowned rolls can cause wrinkles. This is due to the fact that the smaller diameter towards the rolls ends drives webs edges slower in the machine direction than the center. This can cause the edges to be "walked in" toward the center of the crowned roll, causing wrinkles (assuming the web is in traction with the crowned roll face) - exactly opposite what you want.

Reverse crown rolls have a profile exactly opposite crowned rolls. The rolls diameter is greater towards the edges and less in the center. The larger diameter towards the rolls edges will "walk" the webs edges away from the center (assuming the web is in traction with the reverse crown roll face). This will help to eliminate wrinkles.

Try it with one roll and see what your experience tells. If the reverse crown works well for you, then often times adding this profile to several rolls in your machine yields the best result.
