The most important thing about dancer rolls is how they are designed

Dancer roll assemblies should be designed to limit friction, how gravity effects the system and momentum and inertia of the moving (dancer) rolls. Here are some tips to dancer roll design:

Limit friction - by utilizing rolling diaphragm cylinders or glass lined cylinders (no seals). Make sure all idler rolls in the dancer assembly rotate freely. All moving frames should be mounted in ball bearings or linear ball bushings.

Limit gravities effect on the dancer - by using a dancer that has its moving framework counter balanced within itself. Or consider a horizontally moving linear design instead of vertical.

Limit momentum and inertia - by using a mechanically sound, lightweight design. Do not use weight loaded designs - this will add to momentum and inertia.

Properly designed dancers will have great impact on your tension control and your webs behavior.
