When using safety chucks, make sure their design is safe.

Many types of safety chucks increase pinch points in a machine. Make sure these types of chucks are properly guarded to avoid pinch points. Safety chucks that utilize axially sliding shaft locking devices totally avoid pinch points.

Beam strength of your shaft support device (usually an air shaft) is critically important to how well safety chucks work. Make sure your air shafts and journals are designed properly to support your rolls weight with the least amount of deflection.

Alignment is important as well. Your safety chucks should be properly aligned with each other and your machine to provide the best possible performance and the longest time between repairs.
