Shaft Design is Key to Ensure Proper Safety Chuck Operation

Safety chucks are an excellent method for safely supporting air shafts in unwind and rewind applications. They include a lot of parts that can wear over time. Maintenance of your safety chucks can be greatly improved by ensuring the shafts they are supporting are properly designed.

Shaft deflection can be a major contributing factor to excessive wear of parts in your safety chucks. Make sure the shafts being supported by safety chucks are designed to be as stiff as possible to minimize deflection.

Shaft ends should be shaped properly to fit the safety chuck cradle with proper tolerances adhered to. Shaft ends should also be designed to allow for shaft deflection, this will reduce wear within safety chucks.

Bottom line - keep in mind that when safety chucks are designed to fit an application, it is important that the shafts they are supporting are designed properly as well.
