Safety Chucks for Round Shaft Ends

Some safety chucks can be designed to accept round shaft ends. The advantage to this design is that the round shaft end will run smoothly and with less wear than the typical square shaft. In addition, round shafting will increase beam strength of the roll support shaft, lessening the wear and tear associated with excessive shaft deflection. The shaft ends will need a flat or similar machining, so the safety chuck can deliver torque, the core support method for unwind or rewinding, under tension. However, all of the roll weight will be supported by the round section of the shaft end. The next time you are considering safety chucks for an application, keep round shafting and its' advantages in mind.
