Bowed Roller - Expanding Surface Roller Comparison | |
|
Often times, the best type of anti-wrinkle system for a given application is based on the available geometry for its mounting location in the converting machine. Bowed rollers work because a paper, film, foil, textile or nonwoven web will seek a perpendicular angle to the curved axis of the bowed roller. This spreading action takes place in the web entry span to the bowed roller. The longer the entry span (unsupported web distance) into the bowed roller, the more web spreading will occur. Expanding surface rollers incorporate a face width, which actually grows (gets longer) as the roller rotates. Anti-wrinkle action takes place on the roller face. These types of anti-wrinkle devices work extremely well with short web lead -in and lead-out distances. More wrap angle, up to 180 degrees, equals proportionally more web wrinkle elimination.
