Issues With Reverse Crown Rollers

Though a passive anti-wrinkle device, concave (reverse crown) rollers will have a tendency to walk wrinkles out of paper, film, textile or nonwoven webs in converting applications. Keep in mind the web must be in traction with the concave roller.

Use of reverse crown rollers can cause some issues.
  • Since this type of roller has less support for your web in the center, a web with a baggy center condition may be made worse.
  • Larger roller diameter at the edges of the web will deliver added tension. This non-uniform tension may distort your web.
  • Most reverse crowned rollers are homemade and the amount of reverse crown profile required for your application may be difficult to determine.... In other words, do you require .010" of reverse crown or .100"?
