Roll Changes - Lighten the Load
Many unwind and rewind applications in converting require center winding shafts that must be loaded and unloaded for changing rolls of paper, foil, film, textile and nonwoven webs. These center shafts can include differing methods of gripping and holding the roll core. They may be pneumatically or mechanically operated.
These core holding devices must be designed with enough beam strength to properly support the material roll, which can lead to heavy loads with which machine operators must contend to load and unload material rolls. It is best practice to design roll support shafts with the lightest weight possible, lightening the load and easing machine operator interaction with the converting process.
